Never been a big fan of Colnago's but that retro paint job makes that bike a thing of beauty!

I would like to use a “modern” & current stem on the bike. Wondering if anyone has had experience with this - steerer tube shims?

Got to love a Klein

Out of interest, what sort of mileage would you say you put on a typical bike?

The shim is fine so you can use 1 1/8 diameter stem. It will look much better

I don’t know - don’t really keep track of each, but I do ride some more than others!

Love that colour.

I made my own shim to bring the proprietary 1 1/16 steerer up to 1 1/8.
Seems fine so far.

Depending on what year yours is, you may find that you'll also need to shim the front brake caliper through the fork.
Building mine up was a proper headache, but worth it in the end.

If you get stuck with anything, let me know.

Did the frameset come with the original MC2 stem and the plastic spacers sleeves? You might need to get a custom top cap machined up to fit if you want to a modern day stem. Quantum Pro's had a pressed in steerer tube assembly like their bottom brackets.
One of my greatest regrets is selling mine which i bought new in 1995.
