Hey all,

Recently changed over some parts on my MTB, rode it today and it felt horrible. Felt very harsh and was feeling lots of vibration/trail.

It's a Santa Cruz Blur 100mm xc

I realise I can use the process of elimination and figure it out myself but thought I'd get anyone's opinion that might give me some advice.

Swapped over the following:
-Santa Cruz flat bar to a Mt Zoom light weight handle bar
- swapped to a FSA -17 stem from a -6.
- swapped from Reserve 28Xc wheels to Roval Control SL. (Had these on another bike and although direct I've never thought they were harsh)
- swapped from Maxis Aspen/Recon Race 2.4Wt to schwalbe racing ray/ralph in the 2.35 Super Race

Haven't changed suspension pressure.

Tyres remained at 20psi rear and 18psi front for a 73kg kitted rider.

Any opinion on what the most likely culprit is?

I've run the bars and wheels previously ... tyres are new so maybe this is the culprit? They don't look as baggy as the 2.4wt and they have lots more grip knobs.

Cheers!

The tires made the bike feel harsher. The Aspen/Rekon Race are huge and very comfy.

I suspected the tyres.
I might work on dropping the pressure and seeing if I can get it more comfortable.

Cheers

The tyres are narrower but you put the same pressure in, which makes them more rigid.

Could it be that the change of stem angle pushed you forward and the fatigue on arms/shoulders is contributing to the harsh feeling?

Probably a bit of everything, but mostly the tyres

The Santa Cruz bar is deliberately more compliant than average. The Mt Zoom I had was average so maybe a marginal harshness gain

Stem I agree might be a body position change than feels unnatural and adds to the poor feel

Similar to the bars the Reserve rims are more compliant than average and the Roval are roughly average from my experience on both. Again, maybe a marginal harshness gain

Tyres... depends a bit on exactly what exact tyre models but I'd never choose those Schwalbe tyres for ride feel at pressure where I felt sidewall support. Plus yes, they are narrower in printed numbers and in actual measurements compared to what you had so they will feel harsher.

Thans for clarifying all this. Basically knew it but wanted confirmation/opinion.

Will drop tyre pressure or change tyres back first and then go from there.
