Having recently had a build get out of control and needing money for some family stuff, I bought a “sensible” MTB, a Scalpel HT 4. It’s nice! However, wanted to upgrade the fork and, since I have a Pike 120mm lying around, thought I might throw that on there.

The bike is only rated for 110mm, though, with a crown to axle length of 530mm. The Pike is 120mm and has a crown to axle of 540mm. I called Cannondale and they quoted out of the manual.

The other consideration is that it would add a little weight (I don’t care that much), and would slacken the geometry a bit more.

What are your all’s thoughts? Dangerous? Bad idea?

Always start with the why

Why do you need extra 10 or 20 mm?

You ride xc then I would not do it.

You ride trail get a fs or a ht for proper riding.

My e cents.

Run a touch more sag for a more supple fork. Sorted.
