I have three sets of new xc race tires that I put on the scale and was suprised at the weight difference within the same set tires:

Maxxis Rekon Race 120 TPI 29X2.35 (801g) Maxxis Website
My two new Rekon Race were 756g and 766g, so 10g difference, not bad I guess.

Pirelli Scorpion XC RC Lite Team Edition 29X2.40 (660g) Pirelli Website
My four new Scorpions were 620g, 626g, 640g and 642g., so as much as 36g difference in the same set tires!
That is rolling weight, so I'm thinking pro race teams must weigh ther tires?

Is this a common weight difference?

Why? Pressure, tread compound/design and carcase design are all going to make far more difference than a minimal weight difference.

It's a perfectly normal variation in weight.

This weight difference is normal and actually you found some pretty low differences. Some manufacturers officially state up to 8-9% deviations as normal.

Some Mtb Pros weigh their tires, but not all are looking for the lightest one. Some select the heavier tires, because the extra material will likely increase puncture protection which is preferable for some races.

Nino's mechanic said on the Pinkbike podcast he weighs all the tyres and uses heaviest ones for training, midweight for racing and the lightest ones are kept for special occasions!

Thank you, it teaches me the claimed weight of tire has a wide tolerance or may be some kind of marketing trick play...
