I'm building a wheelset for my Cannondale Fsi 2019 which is boost standard.tø The rearhub will be a DT Swiss 240S 12x148. I Will only use it for gravel riding and would like to have the Force XG-1270 cassette with the 10-36 gearing. The wheelset comes with the XD body which I plan to exchange for the XDR to fit the cassette.

My question is if the index on this setup will match my mountainbike wheelset with a XD body and X0 XG-1275 10-50 gearing or I need to adjust the gears? Will the RD shift fine with the 10-36 in the whole range?

Thanks Anders

you'll need to adjust the B-tension as the largest cog is so much smaller & obviously shorten the chain length

I don't think that will ever work satisfactorily. The Eagle derailleur is only made to shift a 10-50T cassette, the gap down to a 10–36T cassette would be huge. Also the 10–36T cassette is only designed to mesh with a flat top chain which definitely would not work with the upper pulley of an Eagle derailleur.

According to Gerard Vroomen a better alternative would be to use a Rotor 11-39T cassette and a KMC X12 chain.

Don't you think the gab will be reduced by the long chain not causing the RD to rotation as much as on a large cassette?

If I run the normal chain I won't have an issue with the pulley I guess. There might be something with the shift quality. Only Way to find out seems to try it out. Regarding gearing options I would have liked a 9-33 cassette to that extra gearing on the top for Road sections, but seems only available on mountainbike cassettes.

Finally got my new wheels and fitted the XDR body and XG-1270 10-36 cassette. Shifts perfect on the work stand with the XX1 Eagle RD.

And how does work in real life, with the 12 sp xx1 eagle shifters?

Best regards Rolf

XDR driver just uses a spacer ring to accommodate XD so it's fine.

Bumping up old thread, but hopefully someone has the experience in the following.

I'm planning to build a new wheelset for my gravel bike and target DT Swiss 350 straightpull hubs paired with 10-44 SRAM XPLR cassette.
Trick is - I want 28H wheels, but XDR freehub is only offered for 24H road hubs.

Did anyone swapped XD freehub on MTB hubs for XDR road freehub? Does this combo work and I can go ahead and order MTB 28H XD hubs and run it with XPLR cassette?

Like Moyboy says- Put a 1.8mm spacer on the XD and call it good. No need to switch bodies.

Thing is that XDR is longer than XD

I believe you’ve confused yourself here.

You are correct. I was confused. It is the opposite where you can use a spacer. Running mtb cassette on XDR hub.
