Hi,

As title says, something like a 1.5 inch tyre, want to do some more cross races but dont want to buy a cross bike.

Done a few races on 2.1 Nobby Nics but they have loads of drag, any ideas please?

Oh, and Im based in the UK so ALL the races are muddy as hell!!

Kenda Klimax Lite K tire, 26 x 1.95" they seem narrower than the listed 1.95 and are fast. I have had them in the mud once and they were ok but not great, they tend to be a little minimalist in design. For the price and weight you can't beat them, I paid $25 each and on the scale 346g. Had one pinch flat at 30lbs but converted to tubeless and have had no problems I usually run them at @40 lbs.

Actually the 1.85" Rocket Ron is really, really slim. I know a guy who used them with great success at some very muddy races this year.

Bontrager MudX for just slimey.

Maxxis Beaver 2.0 for mud with other stuff like roots and rocks.

Go for a really narrow tyre, like a 1.5" - I race CX and in really muddy conditions it's noticeable that the MTB guys with fat tyres can't hold a line because the tyre is just floating, whereas with a 32mm CX tyre you simply cut through the mud. You can get Swalbe Smart Sams in 1.5" for very reasonable money.
Just ride
