Hi there,

I´d like to replicate the fabulous DIY solution shown here:

http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=87102&hilit=cateye+button
http://forum.slowtwitch.com/forum/Slowtwitch_Forums_C1/Triathlon_Forum_F1/DIY_Cervelo_P5_-_Di2_9070_Brake_Shifter_Hack__P4554409
and here
http://dinosarti.com/blog/2013/5/23/hacking-the-heck-out-of-my-di2-9070.

I´d like to use my Dura Ace 9070 together with the Magura RT 8 TT Brakes on my Shiv TriBike.
Unfortunately I can´t get any Cateye Remote buttons. Performance Bikes (https://www.performancebike.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CheckoutLogonView?catalogId=10551&langId=-1&storeId=10052&krypto=dRTCROKyT80mNDX4TU3f%2Bw%3D%3D&ddkey=http:RetailStoreLocatorInventoryView) seems unable to deliver to Germany.

Are there any alternatives to the Cateye-Buttons?

If you were just shifting the RD for out of the saddle efforts on the basebar, couldn't you just install R610 Sprint shifters?

The control circuitry in the 9070 is totally different from the 7970. You cannot hope to replicate the simple hacks done on the 7970. Unless you have some pretty sophisticated electronic engineering background to dupe the 9070 controllers.

And as said, get the R610 sprint buttons and hack from there. A whole lot less painful.

Thank you deltree and maxxevv for your replies. Both examples I posted used 9070 brifters. Please have a look here:

Basically I´m searching some form of substitute for the CatEye Buttons.

You need the handshake pcb for the e-tube system to do this. For this you need first to crack the e-tube protocol and then take it from there. Not impossible but somewhat time consuming. Best of luck!

If you're going the same route as that and using a donor shifter set for the requisite controller/ IC chip , well yes you can.

Not meant as criticism, just curiousity-what do the cateye buttons achieve that the sprint buttons don't?

Not ever using the Sprinter buttons or anything else Shimano, my guess is that the Sprinter buttons operate the rear derailleur and he wants to have remote buttons that operate both front and rear.

AFAIK the sprint shifters use a dedicated port in the ST-9070 as the SW-9070 climber shifters. This port is absent in the ST-9071. Furthermore the wiring is not long enough to fit through the complete base bar.
So you have to cannibalize the brifters or SW-R671, put them in the basebar and solder some sort of buttons to the circuit board. Then you glue these buttons to the Magura brakes.

Gotcha. I'd think about using a five port junction and splicing a longer wire, if that's a doable solution.

Edit, never mind, guess not. The "dedicated" port part probably means that the chip is in the brifter, not in the sprint buttons, which also explains why you can use the climbing shifters with Ultegra but not the sprint buttons (at least 6770, not clear about 6870).
