Can i run sram axs 1x xplr with a 12 spd grx crankset also 1x

I would be looking to swap to axs shifters, RD and cassette.

If you get a AXS flattop compatible chainring for your GRX crank, then yes. But not with the GRX chainrings. Can use the XPLR derailleur with a shimano 10-45 cassette and Shimano chain.

So, if I bought axs brakes and levers with a new xplr RD then I could use the existing parts. If I wanted a flat top chain then I need compatible 1x chain ring too.

yes. flat top needs the correct cassette and chainring.
