Hello. I'm a long time reader but only signed up now.
I have been having a lot of pain on the outside of my right foot(midfoot), which is a little wider than the left. I am not sure if it's entirely down to width but it's certanly a factor. I have been wearing Mavic Cosmic pro shoes for the last two years, which are too narrow for my feet. Lately I have tried several new shoes like the Scott Road TT and Giro Prolight Techlace. The Giro are the best out of them since the material seems to help with making them wider once they are on the feet, even if they are narrow. The Scotts are also pretty narrow but they are a size too big for me so better than the Mavic.
Now I have gotten the new Lake CX201(44), which fit me well width wise but the heel is huge. I can stick in a finger on each side of the heel easily. Then I got the CX333 Wide(44) thinking that they would be the same width as the 201, which they are supposed to be according to Lakes lists. After trying them on, they are also too narrow.
After I measured them, the 332 are only 101,3 wide and the 201 are 108 as they are supposed to be. And they are way wider midfoot. The 332 wide is supposed to be 107,8 wide. I will provide pictures of the measurements.
So now I am thinking wether to order the 332 in extra wide. My feet are not super wide but like I said, the right one is a little wider though. Does anyone know if the 332 extra wide are wider midfoot or only in the toebox? And if the instep and heel width differ.
I have also thought of the cx241 wide but 114mm seems way to wide.
I wad gonna post pictures but I'm not sure how to.

Hmmm...
Dunno about Lake anymore!?
Always hear how amazing they are for wide feet, but they do not get on well with my 105mm+ width feet at all. Pain, pain, pain.
Plus the heel retention in all but the 403 is terrible IMO.
Also a weird shaped last for most people who do not have curved feet.

The MX332 I tried also had a super high collar and didn't play nice with my bony ankles.
Lake CX2-series and CX3-series are using different lasts with different widths I think. Check out the fitting chart https://www.lakecycling.com/pages/sizing-charts .Roadbiker10 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 9:45 amHello. I'm a long time reader but only signed up now.

Pro tip: get full custom. You keep trying different shoes and most likely you'd realize all that money spent on trying are worse than going straight to full custom. Of course, you need a specialist store locally. Good luck.

Yeah I know, The CX2 series are too narrow in standard and too wide in wide. That's why I went for the CX3 series. The CX1 series also have a good width for me but I imagine that the heel will be very wide, like the CX201. I thought that the more expensive models would work because they are wide enough and I can mould the heel.jlok wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 10:36 amLake CX2-series and CX3-series are using different lasts with different widths I think. I would get custom but I don't believe that's available anywhere here in Sweden. Do you mean custom Lakes or something else? I am going to a physiotherapist now and she said I will get orthotic shoes and insoles for my job but I don't know if there is something like that for cycling. Custom Insoles are available for cycling shoes and I'll look into it but don't know about shoes.
I would definitely get custom if it was possible.

I noticed that as well, but maybe not as bad. The collar is really close to the bone that's protruding on the ankle and it touches it when I twist the foot around. But I'm not sure if it would be an issue when riding.TobinHatesYou wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 10:29 amtommyboyo wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 10:02 amHmmm...

They also have very hard edges around the ankle, same as S works 7. None of The Mavics, Giros and Scott have that.

I see. The CX201 feel really comfortable for me. Is it imoprtant that the heel is tight on the sides? I don't have an issue with the heel lifting on them but on the sides there is a lot of space. They are not tight at all. Would that work for non agressive riding, like long easy rides?tommyboyo wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 10:02 amHmmm...

Not about Lake, but have you tried on other brands' wide width shoes? I have wide feet too and found that trying as many shoes I can is the best way to find the right pair. Fizik, Sidi, Bont, and Shimano offer wide width options.

Here are my measurements by the way. They have been taken on a machine that measures feet so it's exact.
Length: L 273mm, R 272mm
Width ball: L 106mm R 109mm
Instep: Low
Arch height: Low to medium
Heel: Medium

I haven't because they are almost never available in stores around here. So I would have to order them to try. I also heard that only Bont and Lake actually have wider soles and not just volume.Usernamealex wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 11:31 amNot about Lake, but have you tried on other brands' wide width shoes? Bont I would like to try but I just don't think the carbon sole extending up on the sides will be good for the outside of the midfoot where I have pain. Also, once you mold them you can't return. Another issue is that it would be very difficult to sell wide shoes second hand.

Here are some useful pictures comparing the 201 and 332 wide. Also insole comparison of the different shoes.
I know I always look for stuff like this so I think it will be useful for alot of people when searching for shoes.

I have wide feet too. Had problems in the past with some shoes. For what it is worth, I do find shimano wide to work wells for me. Wide enough in the mid food region and excellent heel retention as well. I can use it for +4 hr with no discomfort even on trainers.

Which Shimano shoes do you have? Do you happen to know the width of your feet? I am looking at the S phyre rc902 in wide right now. I think I read somewhere that the 902 are more narrow in the toebox than the 902.cloud9blue wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 11:42 amI have wide feet too. Had problems in the past with some shoes. I think I am going to order the rc902 in wide and try. They have them at bikecomponents. Too bad that the 701 are out in wide, otherwise I would get those instead.
