Does anyone know if the shifter clamps are cross-compatible between Dura-Ace and Ultegra?
I'd like to make my upcoming Ultegra build a touch lighter with select upgrades. I was thinking DA cassette, pedals and then these clamps seem like an easy way to shave off some grams.

Yes, they are interchangeable. I already swapped levers between my DA and Ultegra 12speed bikes without issues.

Interesting. According to your post, are the 11 speed and 12 speed clamps the same? Could I get a clamp from a 11-speed DA shifter and use it on a 12-speed Ultegra shifter?

They're all pretty interchangeable.

The bands are all interchangeable and the nuts, bolts, and washers usually are swappable. However, different length bolts and washers styles are used between different shifters.

An example of this slight difference I saw on the latest rim shifters r9250 which use square washers and longer nuts so I couldn't swap over shorter titanium nuts and bolts from the aftermarket kits like I could with hydro shifters.

I wrote up a long post on my research on the bands in this post

This change is more of a minor weight savings compared to swapping the rd cage and pulley wheels to dura ace which I detailed earlier in that same thread.

With those two changes the difference between modified Ultegra and stock dura ace shifters, rd, and fd are under 70g for a lot less cash.

Yes you can for both 11s and 12s, and I replied to you privately, thanks.

Has anyone tried 12-speed callipers with 11-speed? It seems there is a lot of travel in the lever before it starts braking. Way more than I remember with 11-speed callipers.

I have no problems running 12-speed calipers with 11-speed levers (GRX Di2, which has ServoWave I believe).

I already did. And the brake doesn't feel spongy nor does it touch the bar (it locks out about 1cm away). It's just all the effective braking feels like it's in the last few mm of travel.

Maybe it's just because I've not used 11-speed disc in a while and have been using rim brakes.

Maybe I will push some extra fluid into the system/sand down the bleed block a little.

While we're on the topic of brakes and lever throw - What's everyone's opinion on the reach adjustment of R9200/R8100?

Personally, I find the reach to the brake lever to be a bit too long from the drops. I wear men's size M gloves usually, sometimes L. Index finger length about 76 mm and from where palm transitions to the wrist to the tip of middle finger is 19 cm.
My reach adjust is set up as close to the bar as possible and free stroke is wound all the way in (minimal free stroke). It's just perfect most of the time as I wear gloves with minimal padding, but sometimes when I wear padded gloves, it's a touch too long reach. =/

I have recently installed both uktegra groupsets - 8100 and 8000. Was bleeding them out the same way personally and stroke of 8070 levers is significantly longer. In my opinion it’s just feature of older groupset.

I've never used 11 speed Di2 - switched over from Campy 11 (mech) to 12 speed Di2 (ultegra levers, everything else 105).

To get good lever feel, minimal lever travel before bite - akin to a rim brake setup with pads set close to the rim, I found I had to:

1) unwind the bite point adjustment bolt 2-3 turns before bleeding
2) bleed (use an almost-full syringe, push and pull the fluid multiple times - really ensure you get all the micro bubbles out, pump the brake lever a few times in the process. When you think you're done - re do it again, it really needs to be bubble free)
3) secure both bolts, at caliper then at lever
4) clean up with isopropyl
5) This is the crucial bit - wind back in the bite point adjustment bolt all the way.

Using this process the pad engages quite quickly when squeezing the lever, and it gets nowhere near the bar drop before it's fully engaged. The whole system feels really tight.

Never tried this on 105 levers (which lack the bite point adjustment) so I'm not sure if points 1 and 5 are the trick, or if the trick is to keep pushing and pulling fluid through the system multiple times over until all bubbles are evacuated. What I will say is that I looked at a few bikes on a shop floor recently with the 105 Di2 levers - one felt like crap when squeezing the brakes - lever went all the way to the bar, the other felt just like my Ultegra levers. So I suspect it's more about getting point 2 right than points 1 and 5.
