It is for routing the Di2 cable at the back of the RD.

Question about Ultegra cassettes. This may have been covered allready, but couldn't find it...
Whats the difference between the ULTEGRA CS-R8101 CASSETTE & ULTEGRA CS-R8100 CASSETTE?
Is it the updated version of the cassette whitout the clicking noise? Or is it something different?
Thanks!

The fd should come with a 90degree plug routing thingy. I still cable tie mine to the frame just to keep everything tight, though.
8100 was released first with Di2, 8101 came later once the mechanical 12 groups came along. 8101 has different tooth profiling meant to better accommodate mechanical shifting, whatever that means. 8100 will work with mechanical (I do it) but it's apparently not 100%.
Yeah, this was straight from Shimano via their employee purchase program. That one part was missing. The cable is okay now but I'd rather have it routed a little tighter via the guide. I ordered one from Amazon for $8.

I would have thought that DI2 would impose more demanding shifts on a cassette than mechanical typically would.harblhat wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 12:22 pm8100 was released first with Di2, 8101 came later once the mechanical 12 groups came along. 8101 has different tooth profiling meant to better accommodate mechanical shifting, whatever that means. 8100 will work with mechanical (I do it) but it's apparently not 100%.
And it is more precise at doing overshift and back off.BdaGhisallo wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 2:54 pmI would have thought that DI2 would impose more demanding shifts on a cassette than mechanical typically would.
Say you only need 1.8mm (make up number) of cage movement to sit in the middle of next cog. The Di2 RD may move 2.1mm initially to help speed up the shifting then back off to the rest location. Cable actuated gears 's overshift action is at the mercy of the rider for the down shift (to an easier gear) and simply not doable for the up shift (to the harder gear).
So, a cassette for mech gear must allow the gear indexing to be less precise and don't rely much on overshift to crisp-ly change gear.

I am also curious to see feedback re: 12 speed.
I am using the Buzz chainrings with Shimano DA Di2 11s and the shifting performance is outstanding.
I use them with Ultegra 12 di2 - it works, even with 52/34 on my bike (images for this combo viewtopic.php?f=4&t=161754&p=1823639#p1823639)

Nice thanks, i know they will never shift as good as shimano’s but if its at least 80% as good i can live with that
(Thats a lovely crux build!)
