R785 vs R9170 Shifters

I'm working on my BMC Roadmachine build. The model came with R785 shifters, but I'm considering upgrading to R9170 shifters. Is there any difference in reach between these two? I've found mixed information in prior searches.

I have just gone from r785 to 9170 the reach in my opinion is approx 10mm shorter ( I am going to lengthen stem to compensate) the 9170 are so much better , be sure to change to correct hoses for the 9170 levers as they are not cross compatible (I had to get them shipped from the states as uk out of stock)

Wife's bike has 9170 and mine has R785 and the first thing I noticed when I built her bike were that the hoods/body was slightly narrower as well. Have not been able to find these in the US, but was able to order a retail box set (shifters, hydraulic hose, mineral oil) from a Japanese Ebay store and should be swapping mine out in a few days.

I read that on your other thread, so assuming you are referring to the head of the bleed port cover and not the threads themselves? Having followed the dealer manual and using a good quality 2 mm Allen key to install a set of the ST-R9170 shifters on my wife's bike, I had no issues, which really has me wondering about the quality of tools and/or the skill level of the mechanics at your LBS.

can't find them either and most ship in september.

I don't believe there are 9000 brake calipers. As far as I know, just the R685/RS685 calipers, which are variations of the XT calipers.

Perhaps I mis-understood. The question was if 9000 calipers were used. Your link shows the 9100 series, not 9000 series.
