Please advise as I have never ridden an f8

For 2k, absolutely! The F8 is by far the best bike I've ever ridden, and that includes the 60.1 and the 65.1.

be nice to try it and it is not like you are going to lose money on it (or much) if you decide to sell. might as well.

be interesting to reads a review from someone who hasn't spent 7k on it. tends to remove a bit of the ownership bias surely?.

I have the 65.1 and the F8. The difference is subtle, but the F8 feels stiffer at the bottom bracket to me. I am actually selling the F8 frame in order to upgrade to an F10 frame.
It is a 2016 BoB in size 51.5 if anyone is interested.

It's all downhill from here, except for the uphills.

From an authorized dealer I presume then 2k would be reasonable but not from a private seller.

+1
2000 for a used F8 is not a bad price but not great either. At least the frame comes from your friend so you trust him.

That's a stellar price for an F8, if you don't like it, I bet you could sell it and actually make money on it. Nothing to lose if you have the cash flow for it.
