Afternoon gents,
Contemplating a build on a Pinarello Galileo frame I have sitting in the shed unused. Not the lightest in the world (IIRC the frame alone is about 1500g) but it fits me, it's stiff and reasonably well-mannered. Contemplating getting it stripped and refinished then building it up with DA 7900 for a slightly retro race weapon...thoughts..?
Cheers,
Simon

Thanks Lugan, always good to hear of other people doing similar things. Any pics?!

Those are the magic words.
Why not if you already own it and it fits. But since it will likely be a second, third, fourth, etc. bike, be reasonable on the costs of parts. Not sure about this stripped and refinished idea. Why? Its obviously not your preferred, favorite, ideal frame since its been sitting in the shed unused for years(?). Just build it up and ride it. No new paint.

Why not build with current day parts. You can get a current Ultegra or 105 group for real cheap

Too many 10 speed wheels with waaay to much life left to contemplate jumping to 11 speed quite yet. 2nd hand 7900 with nothing on it runs about 6-700$ NZD as opposed to about 1000$ for ultegra...I know I could put 11 speed on it and do the darkspeedworks hack, but knowing there's an extra cog I'm missing out on - that'd piss me off beyond belief!
Build it with 5800 or Rival22 and get a machined 6800 or an Edco Monobock cassette, both will fit 10sp freewheels. No new paint unless the current one is badly damaged!
