My paint was scraped when i torqued the bolts.
I don't know if i had a bad Monday design or if all is same!?

Anyway,i thought that i could make the channels longer and remove the paint.

Took some time but, i think it looks pretty good like this.

A pitty i can't give an honest answer. My scale is the cheapest possible and it does not make any difference actually.

I think it could be below or around 10 grams as that is margin of error according to the info sheet.

To be honest, i like it better as it is. No horrible big "Z" and it matches the frame.

Hey wOf,

I consider the SL Speed stem "self-marring," as I've never seen one installed that didn't have the paint in front of the bolt damaged by the mere act of installing it. Zipp did not engineer adequate room for an allen wrench to install the bolt! Anyway, I otherwise like this stem and may get another one to give your solution a try! Thanks for posting!

Hey Indy, yes do it but take your time sanding. For the bolt channels i used a dremel. It's a beautiful stem underneath that paint.

The cap is also carbon + ti. I think it has a kind of retro look to it in some ways.

Not the stiffest of stems, but then again my Superlogic C260 and EC90 SL are both much more beefy and heavy.

I think they should have made a larger diameter on this to make it stiffer.

Sanded Easton EC90 Aero, the part red bar in size 42. It's white underneath the red. You save a bit over 20 grams on this bar if you sand it.

Took a horrible amount of time though!

Stem and bar is (about) 310 grams (42+110).

OK, I have a Zipp stem on the way to receive this treatment. What grit sandpaper did you use? Got any tips now that you've completed the job? The corners on the faceplate look like they're going to be a pain.

Thanks again,
Chris
