oval 7x9 or round carbon rails?

i'm planning on buying a full carbon saddle with carbon rails and can choose between oval and round... i have an s works seatpost and dont know if that fits it?

someone has experience?

And if it’s Berk only go oval or you’ll be forever braking saddles- I’m 64kg and onto my 4th. At least Jure honours his warranty!

You will be able to get the appropriate saddle cradle parts from a Specialized retailer. Cradle for oval rails is marked as ”Carbon rails” and parts for round rails are un-marked, if I remember correctly.

Round will have more flex but this can allow them to migrate in the clamps more and obviously the weight limit is lower. 1 have run 2x 7mm berk and 1 7x9mm berk. 71kg. None have broke.

I'm not so heavy at 64kg but I managed to break round rail twice! (rode on gravel roads that is very bumpy) Fortunately Berk's warranty is superb and he even changed to oval rail for the replacement. Never break one since then.

As for the seatpost you just need the right clamps. carbon=7x9, alloy=7

I just ordered a Berk Lupina with round rails as I thought free grams with my 60kg Specialized clamp as the saddle will be on my Venge.

I'm 61kg and bought round rails thinking "I'm light, it doesn't matter" -- nope, it cracked after a month. Got it exchanged with ovals as well as my second one (unused) on the other bike. Ovals have less flex (and thereby less comfort) but the added assurance is worth way more than a handful of grams. There's a reason why round rails are only special order now and have been taken off the website..

If the turnaround time wasn't so long for me (US <-> Slovenia) AND I only used it in race-day-only situations I might consider round rails again..

Weird that some lighter guys are breaking these. I'm 67-68kg and have had 3 Berk saddles, none have cracked.

I am 60kg and broke a round railed carbon saddle (well i heard the odd cracking sound and my 70kg buddy sat on it and i fianlly saw cracks). The 7x9 is still comfortable for me. The round had too much flex.

Interesting point on aluminum posts for round rails. Carbon posts for oval. Kind of defeats the purpose of saving a few grams with round if you need an aluminum mounting system in the post... but maybe it makes sense. :-\

I run a darimo t1 post with full carbon mounting, and berk lupina 7x9... perfect!
