The dale frame is about 160gr. less than the Allez E5 frame in similar size. aparently Allez 52cm is 1360gr.

the dale fork is full carbon 1.25in bottom bearing and around 250gr less. Allez fork has alu steering tube and 1.5 inch bottom bearing.

Dale has BB30, Allez regular , but 2012 Allez is getting BB30.

The Allez frame geometry is the same as the tarmac so very good handling bike. Its basically a Tarmac , but in Alu.

I think the Dale is worth it for 350$ more , but if your only looking for a good durable race bike for cheap , the Allez is pretty good too.

The 2012 Allez E5 has a full carbon fork like the Tarmac, so it's a bit more competitive with the CAAD10 this coming year.

Im very curious to know if someone has info on the E5 frame weight.

Re-read the post you quoted. ;)

If the E5 "is" anywhere near the 1360g weight posted here (or even the 1320g I read on another board),
that's easily @ least 170g (and as high as 210g) more for a 54cm VS The 10's 1150g for a 56cm.

If you want a more all rounder type, then I would go with a CAAD10. Lighter weight, more compliant ride. If your going to run circuit type races...then just go with the Allez. The OSBB is an awesome addition to the Allez. I think with a SRAM Rival build with a BB30 crank would make an awesome race bike. :beerchug:

I was talking about the 2011 model which has an alu steering. Thats great news for the 2012 model. should lose around 250gr compared to the 2011 fork.

well i've seen real weight of a caad10 white 54cm at 1248gr with seat collar and derailleur hanger.

the black anodized frame 54cm weighs around 1150gr like u said

If the guy is looking for a durable race frame i'm sure he doesn't care if the frame weighs 160 or 200gr more.

A bit off topic as I know your question was regarding the CAAD10 x Allez, but if you are looking for a light and affordable race frame, you might also consider:

CAAD 7 / 8 / 9
Specialized E5 Max Aerotec

And then upgrade to an Edge fork.
What I don't like about the Specialized E5 frames is the compact geometry (which is not for everyone), and the seat clamp, not very WW at all and can't be changed or tuned.

get a CAAD10 and be done with it. proven geometry, crash replacement, and overall quality. the specialized frame is a half-hearted attempt at an entry-level race bike.

Agreed.

The CAAD10 comes from a proven lineage of badassery and are the toughest
race bikes for amateurs around. Plus, this being WW, it's lighter.

My black ano CAAD 10 was:
54cm Frame 1146.1g (includes hanger, bb cable guide)
Fork full carbon uncut 386.3g
Hanger (included)
Seatpost 218.4g (Cannondale C2 Carbon)
Seat Clamp 15.0g
Headset and spacers 50.3g for bearings, 33.2g for all the spacers (can't remember how much)

Total: 1849.3g

Sounds like the Allez is still quite a bit heavier.

Edit:
Also for reference, my painted CAAD 9 was:
54cm Frame 1246.0g (includes hanger, bb cable guide)
Fork full carbon cut 428.8g (premium, not premium+)
Hanger (included)
Seat Clamp 23.8g
Headset and spacers 51.3g for bearings, 23.4g for 20cm of spacers and the conical spacer

Total: 1773.3 + a seatpost.

My Caad 10 (56cm) without wheels is 10 lbs 7 ounces.
I can race it under 15 lbs anytime.

The seatpost on the Allez Evo is a boat anchor.

My girlfriend's Evo with a Force build (SLK cranks), Zipp Service Course SL bar and stem, Thomson post, Ksyrium Elites, and Gatorskins is just at 17lbs. Not the lightest, but cheap and crit-capable.

interesting topic. besides all weight discussions, I want to add that the Speci is 40% of the regular retail price of the CAAD 10 frameset (EUR 499,-- / EUR 850,--). This gives you some monetary left overs one can cleverly invest in light components

True, but the EVO is still porky....Id rather start with the CAAD10 even though its a little more expensive.

I've ridden and owned both.

I'd go with the CAAD10 unless you need a really tall bike. My Allez Evo is yes, a tad heavier, but I think the finishing is not as good, which is evident if you look inside at the tube junctions. This adds weight and no structural benefits whatsoever. The frame is pretty damn stiff and there's no real difference there, but it feels more harsh than the CAAD and slightly less stiff at the BB. I'm not a sprinter, but I've noticed it.

Also, and this really bothers me, the seattube design on the Allez is not carbon post-friendly. The edges of mine were really sharp and ended up cracking a post at only 2.5nm. The post was still loose enough to rotate, yet the edges dug in and cracked it.

I got a really good deal on my Allez so I can't complain and it makes a great winter bike and a really good crit bike, but if I were paying retail for both I'd go CAAD regardless of weight.
Don't take me too seriously. The only person that doesn't hate Froome.
