While not really about cycling, Icarus is a fascinating watch that is cycling related. Netflix I believe.

The greatest film about cycling is the 1977 "A Sunday in Hell". There's a (poor quality) transfer available on YouTube.

The greatest film that involves a bicycle as a significant plot point but has nothing to do with professional cycling or bicycle racing is the 1948 Italian neorealist masterpiece "Bicycle Thieves". (Admittedly, this probably isn't what you had in mind.)

And finally, not that you asked, but the greatest fiction book about cycling is "The Rider" by Tim Krabbé.

I really enjoyed #Rondetreasures series : The Ronde 100 to 104 (I Think). It's on YouTube.
Very entertaining and an insight on the pro cycling from different angles.
I also enjoyed Wonderful Losers (on Netflix). For a rare occasion, the (award winning) documentary focuses on the domestic's work on pro teams. Very beautiful IMHO.

Louis :)

Objectively, the answer is "Breaking Away". Perhaps the best reviewed, most awarded, and most commercially successful low budget indy film of all time and started the careers of two major actors.
Also, within the cycling community it is the best known and most loved film. You should have seen the reception the cast received at Interbike 8 years ago.
