... sure showed me. He crashes all the time though, even back when he was focused on the classics. Everyone loves rooting for loyal Sky domestiques to get their chance though.I was and am willing to say it (only think I did it on another forum), I don't think he will ever achieve anything truly meaningful as a GT GC racer.
Maybe he gets the good stuff at Sky if Froome is out and he is #1. 
Seriously, I think too many guys get cast in the GC role. They spend all their time concentrating on the Tour to get a top 10 and win nothing else all season.
That's one of the sad parts of pro cycling. Riders get cast in a role they may not want and they don't get to develop into the rider they want to be. As a junior, amateur, conti, pro-conti rider they have to do a lot of winning to advance to the next level. Then they get to the World Tour to be a worker bee and never get to win again. I guess the paycheck is worth it.

being a GT rider, a successful one, means you outta be exceptional in every way. being supreme athlete is just the beginning, then you need to land on a team willing to kill for you, able to buy the best riders out there. you need dudes often talked about as equal to you to hide their ambitions and work their asses off for you day in day out. and then there's luck - no petty accidents, no mishaps, no punctures, red carpet from day one throughout the whole three weeks.
how many guys per generation can there be who'd fit that description? 1? 2? I mean - really fit it, no 'but'-s, no excuses. I bet even if Thomas, or Porte, or Quintana or whoever really found a team as capable as SKY, gotten themselves at the very top in climbing, TTing, bought half of the TdF top 10 from previous year, they'd still come short, they'd still miss it. it takes that something extra I believe currently no one except Froome has...

That was some poor television work for that final. You'd either see Porte attacking or Sagan dropping but not a single image from the group behind Porte. They even missed the finish for the second place (and now GC leader) because they'd rather show Sagan.

TV production was well below par. But I must say the public sure enjoys it's TDU!
Porte looked awesome, pretty remarkable that he attacks at nearly the same spot every time and pulls it off year in and year out, though maybe not as dominant as last year
