Studded tires true width

Anyone here riding or have used

* Schwalbe Ice spiker pro 27.5*2.25 (Liteskin version)
* Suomi Tires WCX'R 312 27.5´*2.25

What wheels/ rims did you use (inner width) and as mentioned, what was the true width of the tires?

Not sure how much help this will be, but nobody else has replied.....

I have the 26" Ice Spiker pro tyres, I measured them up for you. Maybe this will help give you an indication of how the 27.5" shape up....

Mounted on a Mavic 317 disc rim, 16mm internal width I think, the tyres measure 62mm across the widest, upper outside edge of the knobbles.
The tyres have 26x2.1 written on them as the size.
2.1" is 53mm, so they come out quite a bit wider than that.

They work great on ice and hard pack snow, and quite acceptably in "normal" Scottish snow, (wet and sugary). There's not too much of a weight penalty either. I'd recommend having a set of spare wheels with them installed, ready to go. The 26" ones are a pretty tight fit on the Mavic rims.

If you have consistent icy conditions, then one set of wheels with them fitted on would be ideal.

Not a surprise as the nominal width is of the carcass and doesn't include the knobbles!

Well, tires are sent and wheelset is already here. So i need to check this.
I intend to put 27,5´wheels on my UP, with winter tires.
Both tires are specified 2.25 but my frame handles tops 54mm width.
So i had hoped either Schwalbe or Suomi version was/ is a bit less wide than specified.

Did you find a good 27.5 winter tire for your UP?

I am in the same situation. Just finished building my New UP, and winter is knocking on the door (in Norway). I am thinking of running two wheel-sets during winter, one 700C-set with slimmer/faster spiked tires for commuting, and one 650b-set with wider tires for longer rides on proper winter roads. Ideal tire would be ISP 27.5 x 2.0", but that does not exists... :/

Hi agab, well i do. But the sad thing is, there is no "standard" studded tires as the ones i guess you'd like.
I guess you want as wide/ fat as your frame possibly can fit?
27.5*2.25 will not work, they will scrape the chainstays on both sides. The studs will be in contact with the chainstays at all time.

What you can do is use Michelin Wild Mud 27.5*2.00 and buy grip studs #1000.
The tire has sufficent knob height for the studs.
The #1000 studs require a depth of 6.2mm to thread in.
You could buy 176*2 (352 pcs) studs and use 176 studs in each tire.
Then you'll use 50% of the knobs studded and the other half un-studded.
It's expensive, but it works.

Perhaps you can mail the Swedish seller and ask for a package deal?

One thing, you probably will not wear these studs.
Most likely you can move them to new tires when the old ones seems worn.
