My thoughts exactly;P I've changed the Ti clutch cover bolts with plastic ones, and swapped to a black one now.

Could benefits be had at reducing that super amount of cable coming in to the derailleur?

You're right. It could (and probably should) definitely be shorter. I'll shorten it some day soon.
KaiGreene has posted photos of a dremeled RD-M9000 here, the reduction is 12g. Should be relevant to anyone who'd like to do the same.
